Police will be looking for drunk drivers over the holidays

Summer is here, and the Fourth of July is less than a week away. Americans throughout the country, including those from Leedsburg, Virginia and the surrounding area, often celebrate the summer holiday by attending parades, fireworks displays and often barbeques and picnics with family and friends. It is not uncommon during barbeques to indulge in a few hotdogs, hamburgers and one's favorite alcoholic beverages.

But when a couple beers become more than a couple and you decide to get behind the wheel to head home, it could lead to getting pulled over for driving while under the influence or even worse, an accident. Getting caught driving under the influence can lead to very serious charges which can follow you for years after your conviction and affect various stages of your life.

Local and state authorities are aware of the dangers of drunk driving, and often take special measures during the holidays in an effort to curb driving under the influence. They may set up check points and stops to dissuade drunk drivers from getting on the road and to catch those who shouldn't be on the roads and get them off the roads.

If you are facing a drunk driving charge, it is important to understand that there still may be ways to fight the charges. Police need to adhere to standards during the process of an arrest. If a defense attorney can prove that police initiated an improper stop, failed to properly administer a field sobriety test, or even did not properly administer a breathalyzer, one may be able to fight the charges.
