The firm of Sevila, Saunders, Huddleston & White, P.C. enjoys a long and distinguished legal heritage in Virginia. The current firm traces its origins to a firm founded in the 1930's by J. Sloan Kuykendall, one of the finest trial lawyers to ever practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Sloan Kuykendall served as chairman of the Virginia Board of Bar Examiners for more than two decades. Sloan Kuykendall continued to actively try cases in Virginia's state and federal courts until his death in 1996. His legacy includes numerous contributions to the common law of this state as a result of the dozens of cases he successfully handled before the Supreme Court of Virginia.
In the late 1940's, Sloan Kuykendall joined with Henry Whiting to create what became the premiere law firm in the Shenandoah Valley. They were joined by Stilson Hall, who became the senior partner in the Leesburg office, then operating under the name Kuykendall, Hall & Whiting. In the early 1970's, William Hanes relocated his office from Herndon, Virginia to Leesburg, Virginia after the retirement of Stilson Hall, which allowed the firm to maintain its office in downtown Leesburg.
In reviewing the history and evolution of the firm, it is noteworthy that over the years four of the partners became Circuit Court Judges. One of those was Henry Whiting who served as a Circuit Court Judge in Frederick County and in the City of Winchester and subsequently was appointed a Justice of the Supreme Court of Virginia, where he served with distinction until his retirement in August of 1995.
Sevila, Saunders, Huddleston & White, P.C. takes great pride in the contributions that it, its predecessor firms and its former partners have made to Virginia's legal system, both as lawyers and judges. Almost all of the current members of the firm have held respected positions in both the state and local bar associations and three of the current partners have served as President of the Loudoun County Bar Association. The attorneys and the staff of Sevila, Saunders, Huddleston & White, P.C. understand the tradition of excellence that has been at the core of the firm's success and that has allowed us to maintain a loyal client base for more than a half a century.
