'Bachelor in Paradise' star in custody battle

Virginians who have followed Amanda Stanton through her appearances on "The Bachelor" and subsequently on "The Bachelor in Paradise" likely know that she became engaged to Josh Murray during the second show. Stanton has two children who she shares with her ex, and he has now filed motions to modify the child custody and child support orders that are currently in place.

Stanton's ex, Nick Buonfiglio, currently pays her $2,000 per month in child support. He argues that when the support was ordered, Stanton made only $100 per month. Since her appearances on the reality series, he claims that her income is now $20,000 per month.

Buonfiglio also claims that Stanton is now using far less than the 65 percent parenting time that the custody orders gave to her. He states that her current lifestyle is bad for the children and that they have been staying with him while she has appeared on the shows and at other appearances.

Child custody and support orders are made in the best interests of the child rather than those of the parents. If the child's interests calls for a change in custody, the court may modify its orders. Similarly, when there has been a substantial change in the financial circumstances of the parents since an order was issued, the court might also adjust the amount of support that is ordered. A person whose family's circumstances have substantially changed since his or her child custody and support orders were issued may want to discuss the matter with a family law attorney.
