A Virginia man has been charged with DUI following an April 5 fatal car accident that resulted in the death of an 81-year-old man. According to Virginia State Police, a Ford Mustang driven by the individual charged lost control of his vehicle and drove into the westbound lanes of Route 695 where it crashed into a Lexus.
The injuries to the driver of the Lexus were said not to be life-threatening. The 81-year-old passenger in the Lexus was taken to a medical center for what were called prior medical conditions and troopers were notified on April 6 that he died due to the sustained injuries he received in the accident.
Experienced DUI defense attorneys can make certain that the record is set straight when such matters are tried in court. Individuals charged with something as serious as DUI deserve to have their story told in court.
The penalties for being arrested for a DUI can be particularly harsh – especially when an accident occurs where someone has been injured or killed. While it is always a tragedy whenever someone dies as the result of a motor vehicle accident, we still need to discover what happened in this matter before anyone can be convicted.
There are a number of steps that arresting officers must take when conducting an arrest to make certain that any court hearing is conducted fairly. There are times police officers mistake what could be erratic driving for drunk driving. In other circumstances, field sobriety tests or breath testing could have been conducted incorrectly.
