Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe recently unveiled a website called Virginia Faces of Drunk Driving. As our readers know, the Commonwealth has some of the nation’s toughest laws against drunk driving. The website is not part of enforcement efforts, however, but rather an effort to put faces to the names of people who are killed or seriously injured in DUI accidents.
After a 2013 increase in DUI fatalities, Virginia seems more focused than ever on cracking down on drunken driving. For those charged with vehicular homicide or manslaughter, it means increasingly hostile media attention and greater challenges in protecting defendants’ rights and ensuring that justice is truly achieved.
Our Loudoun County law firm is dedicated to taking on the challenges involved not only in protecting rights, but in giving clients effective defense counsel.
Experienced attorneys understand how important it is for defendants to decline to speak to prosecutors or police after a serious accident. It is easy for a suspect in a suspected DUI fatality case to inadvertently make inaccurate statements when being questioned without legal counsel. It is also common for people to misstate facts or to fail to accurately recall details in the aftermath of a violent automobile accident.
That is why it is so important for our law firm to sit down with clients first, understand the circumstances of the event, conduct our own investigation of facts, examine police reports in detail and question witnesses. That is just part of what our law firm will do to protect our clients in these serious legal matters.
