Those charged have the right to fight back against DUI charges

The process of being arrested and charged with driving under the influence can be quite nerve-wracking. To have the entire experience over and done with, some may think that pleading guilty is the way to go. However, the truth is that DUI charges are taken very seriously in Virginia. This is why, while there may be temptation to just plead guilty, at Sevila, Saunders, Huddleston & White, P.C., we always suggest first talking with an attorney.

Possibly 1st same-sex divorce case filed in Virginia

The Oct. 6 decision by the U.S. Supreme Court not to hear various challenges to court rulings that recognized the right of same-sex couples to marry had major repercussions for the laws of several states, including Virginia. Locally, the Court’s decision essentially upholds a federal judge’s ruling from January that Virginia’s statute and constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage were unconstitutional.

Virginia teens less likely to drink and drive than national average

Parents of teenagers know that they are in a battle with time. As they urge their children to wait until they mature to test the waters of intimate relationships and alcohol use, they know at the same time that teens are often impatient to experiment with both.

Do ignition interlock devices work?

If one doesn't get you, the other one will. That's Virginia's tough approach to drunk driving offenses. If you are convicted of a first DUI offense, the court will often require you to have an ignition interlock device installed on at least one vehicle. If the court doesn't order installation of the device, the Commonwealth of Virginia says on its website that the Department of Motor Vehicles will. (The cost of those devices is about $500 for a six-month installation and rental.)

Soap opera-like Internet commercial has divorce for a theme

Procter & Gamble invented the soap opera genre in the 1930s as a way of promoting its products -- hence the name. Radio shows evolved into daytime television series, which included such legendary shows as “As the World Turns” and “The Young and the Restless.”

How do consequences differ with repeat Virginia DUIs?

Virginia is known for being one of the states with the strictest drunk driving laws in the country. This is important to keep in mind if you are facing your first ever drunk driving charge or if this is your second or third. You will want to know what you are up against when looking for a criminal defense attorney.
