M. Ella Russell Appointed to NCWBA Board of Directors
We are proud to announce that M. Ella Russell was nominated and confirmed as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Conference of Women’s Bar Associations (NCWBA). Ms. Russell will serve on the Board representing the Virginia Women Attorneys Association (VWAA).
The NCWBA mobilizes women’s bar associations across the nation, advocating for gender equality in the legal profession and beyond. Its mission includes:
- Advocating for equality by mobilizing women’s bar associations.
- Inspiring, educating, and providing resources to women lawyers’ organizations by facilitating idea sharing and addressing inequities.
- Expanding diversity, inclusion, and representation of women lawyers.
- Advancing women lawyers into leadership positions in law firms, the judiciary, academia, government, and nonprofit organizations.
NCWBA Board of Directors: Structure & Responsibilities
Under the NCWBA Bylaws, the Board of Directors is responsible for managing the Association’s affairs and exercising all powers vested by law and the bylaws. The Board is composed of the Officers, the Immediate Past-President, and 16–22 additional Directors, each serving a two-year term. Directors may serve successive terms, up to four consecutive two-year terms (a maximum of eight years), before a one-year hiatus is required.
Board members guide the NCWBA’s governance, strategic vision, and fiduciary responsibilities, ensuring that it remains a leading voice in advancing equality and inclusion for women in the legal profession.
